{"id":886,"date":"2021-02-13T02:31:18","date_gmt":"2021-02-12T15:31:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uberpokies.org\/?p=886"},"modified":"2021-02-13T18:31:38","modified_gmt":"2021-02-13T07:31:38","slug":"crown-resorts-license-hopes-dashed-by-inquiry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uberpokies.org\/crown-resorts-license-hopes-dashed-by-inquiry\/","title":{"rendered":"Crown Resorts\u2019 license hopes dashed by inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A month-long investigation into Crown Resorts\u2019 license application for its A$2.2 Billion Barangaroo casino resort has ended unfavourably for the company.<\/p>\n<p>The NSW\u2019s Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) presented a report to the State Parliament on 9 February, with the recommendation that Crown needs to make \u201csweeping cultural changes if it wanted to apply for a license in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The head of the inquiry and former chief judge in the NSW Supreme Court, Commissioner Patricia Bergin stated that the Crown Resorts casinos in Melbourne and Perth were proven to have serious problems with money laundering and were possibly linked to international organised crime groups.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s numerous regulatory arrangement failings were also brought up, with some crucial issues that needed to be urgently remedied.<\/p>\n<p>This places the new resort in Sydney in an awkward position as it has already opened its hotel and restaurants to the public. The report has yet to be adopted by the <a
href=\"https:\/\/www.liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au\/independent-liquor-and-gaming-authority\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ILGA<\/a> but it is widely understood that this is a mere formality.<\/p>\n<p>The report identified several \u201ccore problems\u201d that made Crown unsuitable to hold the requested <a
href=\"https:\/\/uberpokies.org\/australia-in-move-to-block-illegal-gambling-sites\/\">license<\/a>.
