The famous online casino game maker Microgaming has won yet another award. The Spark Award 2017 was bagged by the company for the successful implementation of its Idea Factory initiative throughout its headquarters situated on the Isle of Man.
According to the company this innovative program was spearheaded by Lydia Barbara, Innovation strategy head. This staff powered innovation initiative collected, filtered and presented refined ideas on how to better the firm’s culture, technology, and processes. The staff was asked to come with new and cool ideas that they felt could be implemented across the company. The inaugural of the contest saw the adoption of an overhaul of the processes for onboarding new operators and an in-house charity lottery.
The company stated the its very first Idea factory consisted of 4 rounds that finished with several proposals put forth before a panel of senior managers in the company. It also saw the implementation of a new workshop to be used for brainstorming and launch of in-house classifieds. A proposition to develop a new emoji based online video slot was also put on the agenda.

“There was a lot of nervousness that we would not get enough innovative ideas to make the Idea factory work,” said Barbara. “However, we soon realized that the problem did not lie in the quality or quantity of ideas, it lay in the fact that we did not have a proper process in place to approve and refine them,” she added. “The experience has been fabulous thanks to the enthusiasm of each person who took part and we are pleased to see great returns from these fabulous ideas coming through.”
The company said that this initiative has been rolled out at two of its other branches and is soon to become a feature company-wide by the end of year 2017.
The Spark Award which is a part of Spark the Change, is a global movement that is purely dedicated to empower people and build happy work spaces. This was designed with the purpose to celebrate organizations and firms that experiment with new ways of working.
There were a number of great entries for the The Spark Award, but the judges unanimously voted for the Idea factory. Helen from Spark the Change, quoted, “We really liked that the whole idea was not just practical but also clear sighted on how to broaden the participation of employees in innovation and making space, time as well as resources made available to nurture and grow new ideas.
