Star Entertainment Group recently announced the appointment of Zhan Spalding as its new general manager of surveillance, Queensland. The new appointee has built an impressive track record through her three-decade career in various industries and possesses the ideal experience for her new role.
Spalding has worked with gaming and hospitality organisations from across the globe with much of that time being spent in the role of a surveillance officer.
From her beginnings as a hotel manager at Interhotels in the Czech Republic, she moved on to work as a croupier and later a manager at Casinos Austria in Prague. Spalding went all-in on the gaming industry and ascended through a series of roles at gaming firms in various countries, including Morocco and New Zealand.
By 2014, Spalding was in Australia, fulfilling various surveillance-related roles across SKYCITY Australia’s operations. In her new position, she is tasked with cultivating the Star Entertainment’s brand by overseeing operations at The Star Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane.
Diversity Determination
Spalding spoke about her new position, saying that she is excited to join Star Entertainment and assist in growing its business. She also shared that, throughout her career, she often found herself as the only woman in surveillance teams and that this saddened her, fueling her passion to inspire more women to join the sector.
“I also want to shine a spotlight on the breadth of the role, which is complex and challenging requiring knowledge of technology, compliance, policy, procedure, data analytics, crisis management and more,” she said.
Jess Mellor, the CEO of Star Gold Coast, welcomed Spalding and lauded her extensive experience in surveillance tech application, multi-site management, and restructuring and streamlining processes.
“Her appointment underpins The Star’s growth and investment in Queensland as well as bolstering our female leadership ranks”, he said.
